Description
Once upon a time this old and abandoned rusty jetty was used by the king of Greece! This destroyed pier is located at Mikro Emvolo (Karampournaki) of Kalamaria in Thessaloniki, Greece. Small boats and ships docked there so that the Royal family of Greece could have sea access to their summer apartments. A long stairway would lead to the mansion up on the hill, called Palataki (meaning little palace in Greek), officially known as the Government House. It hasn’t been used for many years and nowadays it is almost destroyed by the crushing waves. Just some rusted ruins remain in place left on the decay of time.
To access this wharf you have to walk over a rocky beach so usually no one is there. It is a great place by the sea to stay alone, relax and enjoy a beautiful sunset!
This photo was taken during sunset. Heavy clouds had filled the sky. A small gap between them left the light pass and illuminated the whole sky and the sea with beautiful orange and yellow tones! The long exposure gives a calmness to the scene since the sea appears totally still and tranquil. The light is reflected into the sea adding to the serenity of the scene. At the background you usually see mount Olympus, the tallest mountain in Greece, but here the horizon is filled with clouds blocking the view of the huge mountain.
