Description
Star trails over an old, rusty, almost shank ship. This is the Epanomi shipwreck. The stars look like shooting stars while the move in the night sky over the blue sea.
The shipwreck of Epanomi is located in the Potamos area of Northern Greece, about a half-hour drive from Thessaloniki. Locals and tourists alike go to the area in the summer to see the shipwreck and enjoy the beautiful sandy beach and crystal clear blue-green waters.
During the dictatorship, the ship sank in the winter of 1970. It was transporting soil in order to "pinch" a unique natural ecosystem with hundreds of species of fauna as well as around 2,500 flowers and plants. Residents claim that Agios Antonios (St. Antonios) was responsible for the habitat's preservation. The ship was abandoned by the firm that had undertaken the project for no apparent reason; it rusted and sank on the feast day of Agios Antonios. Since then, the ship has remained in the same location.
I went to this location with some fellow photographers a few years ago on a warm summer night. We set up our cameras and began photographing the night sky. From the blue hour through many hours after the sun has set. In order to produce the star trails in this photo, a hundred photographs were combined together. I also have another photo of the Milky Way above this abandoned shipwreck if you're interested. Astrophotography is unquestionably awesome!
