On the south coast of Iceland’s Snaefellsnes peninsula, there’s a village with only a hotel and a tiny black church called the Búðakirkja. Búðakirkja church was built in 1703 by Bent Lárusson, a merchant in Búðir. It decayed away, but Steinunn Sveinsdóttir reconstructed it in 1848. The church's most recent renovation was completed in 2010.
This wooden black church has become a popular photographer's location, and with good reason. Its dark tint contrasts beautifully with the frequently foggy mountains in the distance. If you enjoy minimalist photography, there are bound to be some interesting compositions here!
During our autumn road trip around Iceland, we stopped at this iconic church. It was a cloudy day, as usual, with thick clouds filling the sky. For a few minutes, though, we were blessed with beautiful golden light shining through the clouds.
Hey! I am Ntounas Alexios, born in Thessaloniki, Greece. I am a software engineer and in the past few years I became passionate about photography. I always enjoyed travelling and exploring new places. With my photos I can share those experiences with the rest of the world. Photography is a good reason to wake up early to capture a sunrise, to stay out late to photograph the milky way or to wait for the perfect light. In the end its all about being out in nature capturing the perfect moment. Landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes and astrophotography are my favorite genres of photography. My photographs have been published in Greek magazines and I have participated in various photography exhibitions.
