Artist's Description

The Enipeas canyon is a wonderful trail in the foothills of Mt.Olympus. Enipeas is a river of Pieria. The name of the river comes from some sea deity, father of Pelia and Nilea and husband of Tyro. This is the personification of Neptune. According to Greek mythology, the musician Orpheus was destroyed by the Maenades in the Enipeas Gorge, while the beautiful Lito was bathing in the river.

A few years ago we hiked through the gorge along with some friends. We chose to descend the trails, so we started from Prionia and walked the 10km of the gorge to reach Litochoro village after about 5 hours.

The trail is renowned for its beautiful densely vegetated landscape. Tall pine trees create the perfect shadow protecting you from the sun. Along the trail you come across many beautiful wooden bridges crossing the river. There are waterfalls creating basins which are said to be Zeus, the father of the Gods, baths! So, if you don’t mind the cold water of a river which springs from...

About Alexios Ntounas

Alexios Ntounas

Hey! I am Ntounas Alexios, born in Thessaloniki, Greece. I am a software engineer and in the past few years I became passionate about photography. I always enjoyed travelling and exploring new places. With my photos I can share those experiences with the rest of the world. Photography is a good reason to wake up early to capture a sunrise, to stay out late to photograph the milky way or to wait for the perfect light. In the end its all about being out in nature capturing the perfect moment. Landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes and astrophotography are my favorite genres of photography. My photographs have been published in Greek magazines and I have participated in various photography exhibitions.
