Description
This is part of the interior of Harpa concert hall and conference centre in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is one of the most distinguished landmarks of the capital city of Reykjavik thanks to both its exterior and interior unique design. This iconic building was built in 2011 and attracts many tourists from all over the world. The main designers of Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre are the Danish architectural firm Henning Larsen Architects and the Icelandic architectural firm Batteríið Architects.
The iconic glass facades you see in this photo were designed to recall the basalt columns commonly found in the country. The idea behind them is the quasi brick, a twelve-sided polyhedron consisting of rhomboidal and hexagonal faces. The facades are also illuminated by led lights creating an impressive show at night! To be honest they look like cryogenic chambers of an alien spaceship to me!
We spent over an hour there photographing the abstract shapes and the patterns formatted by these structures created with glass and steel! I found a beautiful flow across those geometrical structures!
