Description
The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile is one of the most famous monuments in Paris, France. It is located at the western end of the Champs-Élysées at the centre of Place Charles de Gaulle, formerly named Place de l'Étoile.
The Arc de Triomphe honors those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The names of all French victories and generals are inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.
With a height of 50 meters (164 feet) it was the tallest triumphal arch for a long time.
To access the Arc de Triomphe there are two underpasses located at the Champs Élysées and the Avenue de la Grande Armée. You can also get at the top and enjoy the view. You can see the Eiffel Tower and get a 360 view of the city of Paris.
This photo is a view of the arch from below depicting its wonderful symmetry.
